Highlights and Activities
OPENING CEREMONY
Delegations from different coasts and landscapes of the archipelago assemble within the session hall; girls slip on elegant Filipiniana attires while young gentlemen don stylish barongs. During the ceremony, personages and participating schools are recognized before the Junior Council. In this evening of prestige and glamour, the most prominent icons of the Children’s Museum and Library Inc. [CMLI] and the Teacher-Advisers Association of the Philippines [TAAPI] grace us with their presence. The night goes on in delight as a keynote speaker, rich with experience on climate change, delivers a powerful speech with an equally powerful message.
ORIENTATIONS AND ACQUAINTANCE SOCIALS
Orientations and Acquaintance Socials, or commonly known as ONA, is designed to acquaint the delegates with their peers through a battery of group dynamics. As the delegates collate to socialize and engage in first encounters, the facilitators guarantee enjoyment with several fun-filled activities in store. This superb convention experience is definitely not one to miss!
COMMISSION DISCUSSION
Commission discussions [CDs] are more than just classroom discussion sessions—they are the heart of the convention. They concretize CMLI’s grand ideals in molding young Filipinos as pioneers of critical thinking. Facilitated by CMLI core of Facilitators, CDs entail group dynamics followed by a heated discourse wherein delegates voice opinions and further discuss their beliefs on pressing social concerns. Along with lasting lessons learned with an intense exchange of ideas, enduring friendships formed between CD members make commission discussions the originally-CMLI experience delegates come back to year after year.
WORKSHOPS
With wholesome development in mind, CMLI not only tackles critical thought but also excellence in visual, language and performing arts. Distinguished speakers engross each delegate into their world of: musical theater, photography, hip-hop dancing, folkdance, TV hosting, cartooning, theater and etiquette. In this way, delegates discover and enhance lifelong skills under the watchful eyes of professionals in the field. Surely, delegates will find an enthralling workshop suited to their needs.
SYMPOSIUM
A fundamental cog in the gears of the grade school convention symposiums—like Socratic discussions—engage delegates in an open discussion heavily fueled by questioning in open-forum style. Therefore, CMLI invites only the most well-informed personalities to impart knowledge on young minds. Through a profound take on the environment, a graver understanding on the youth’s role in climate change shall further imprint itself on the hearts of each delegate.
TALENT VARIETY SHOW
Hold on to your seats! The Talent Variety Show is a much-anticipated spectacle of talent in the performing arts. A mixture of brilliant individuals from participating schools shall steal the night and leave the viewer awed at each distinct performance. Beyond the sheer skill of these groups; however, this cultural demonstration is a reminder of God’s gifts to the youth.
CMLIDOL: SOLO-SINGING CONTEST
Get ready as idol wannabes seize the microphone on this musical arena. Resonant with the rich voices of tenors and sopranos, this contest will fascinate all music lovers with old melodies and heart-thumping pop songs. As participants battle out who can vibrato on the highest notes, why not ponder on the possibility that each endowed singer might be the next singing sensation. On this night, take pleasure in such splendid voices—singing at its finest.
POP QUIZ HOT SHOTS: JUNIOR MARATHON OF MINDS
Think you have what it takes? These contestants surely do as they clash in a battle of wit and pure guts. Fighting against mind-boggling questions and one another, finalists will do whatever it takes to prove that they are the cream of the crop when it comes to information. With topics drawn from science and technology, geography, history, mathematics, literature and the arts, it is no wonder that whoever comes out on top has indeed proven their excellence in academics.
CMLI’S SEARCH FOR LITTLE MISS EARTH 2010
Prepare to be astonished! Little Miss Earth is a pageant for the ultimate grade school pupil who has redefined intelligence, beauty and talent. With exceptional poise, confidence and an undeniable ardor for the welfare of our planet, these finalists will leave a lasting impact on the audience. Clad in casual wear and flamboyant gowns, these candidates will prove that they can walk the walk and talk the talk. But there’s a catch: everything must be inspired with the environment in mind. Indeed, leave the decision to the judges—for beauty and brains are a combination not to be trifled with!
OLYMPINOY: SPORTS FEST
Feel the feisty scent of Filipino camaraderie and teamwork! In this festival of different Filipino sports, delegates restore their childhood passion for uniquely Pinoy games. In the midst of laughter and healthy competition, CMLIers continue to preserve the culture and tradition handed down by our forefathers.
LITERARY MUSICAL
Literary Musical [LITMUS] is the cumulative activity for commission discussions. As a thank-you gift for their beloved facilitators, each block concocts a performance integrating lessons from the convention with their innate intelligences in acting, singing, dancing and interpreting. Such an engaging event is a medium for the delegates to take control and to let their creative juices flow free.
MIMICRY
Mimicry is often the greatest form of flattery; hence, CMLI brings you this newest competition for entertainment. Great entertainers will baffle your senses with their stark imitation of Korean boy groups, phased-out singers, Hollywood action stars, and chart-topping pop idols. Enjoy the presence of famous celebrities without ever leaving the compounds of Teacher’s Camp!
THE ULTIMATE KIDDIE CHALLENGE: SPELLING QUIZ BEE
Sit tight for nothing rings old school like the well-beloved spelling quiz bee! Though infamous for the anxiety suspended on each letter, this contest continues to attract confident contestants who can easily tackle words such as esprit de corps, antediluvian and onomatopoeia. Undoubtedly, this quiz bee will make both audience and contestant spell along!
AMAZING RACE
Don’t turn your back on this event—fellow CD members and facilitators venture Teacher’s Camp to bring home the gold. With a series of physical activities partnered with academic aspects, this vigorous race mixes education and sports for the multi-talented youth.
TEACHER-ADVISERS’ SEMINAR
Under the division of the CMLI Teacher-Advisers Association of the Philippines [TAAPI], teachers from every corner of the country come together and undergo an executive seminar and training workshop. Through empowerment, each educator will realize that, like students, they still have much to learn from each other. Don’t hesitate—grab this opportunity to mingle with instructors from all over the Philippines!
CONVENTION NEWSLETTER
Keeping you on the hook of the latest happenings, the convention newsletter is distributed to each delegation every morning. Convention events are chronicled along with candid photos and unexpected quotes from unwary delegates. The editor-in-chief highly encourages participants to share their sentiments, commentaries and insights about the convention; chances are, you might appear hot on the press the next day!
AWARDING AND CLOSING CEREMONIES
All good things must come to an end; the end of this five-day convention is marked by the closing ceremonies. In this event, exceptional delegates who have achieved above and beyond their fellow competitors are recognized during the awarding ceremony. Success or lack thereof aside, this is also the last chance delegates can wave goodbye to new friends. The awarding and closing ceremony is a melting pot of emotions—melancholy, anxiety and triumph to name a few.
COSTUME PARTY (Disco Socials)
Dive in the multi-colored lights and release the party animal within! Impersonate a favorite storybook, TV, cartoon or superhero character and dance the night away.
